So I’ve gone back over the past decade, a full 10 seasons, and compiled the SEC and Big 12’s combined conference records and created a quiz to get you thinking and giving you an idea of the state and relative strength of the SEC.
This is not a predictive indicator. We can come to that later. Just looking at it, I thought the typical SEC schedule was tougher than the Big 12 schedule. An 8-1 Big 12 record would be roughly equivalent to a 7-2 SEC record. If you want to look at divisions, the SEC West schedule is about 1.25 games more difficult, while the SEC East schedule is about 0.75 games more difficult.
But that’s for another day. It looks at the SEC order, showing who is succeeding and by how much.
Bama is 74-8 in the SEC over the past decade, losing just once, in two conference games to the Crimson Tide in 2019. But KU is 5-84 in the Big 12 during that span, and Kansas hasn’t won more than one conference game since 2008. Look at it this way. Over the past decade, Alabama has had three undefeated seasons in SEC play, while Kansas has had five undefeated seasons in Big 12 play.

The only answer is always Vanderbilt. And you would be right. Vandy is 21-60 in SEC play over the last decade. But the Commodores are only a half-game behind Arkansas. The Razorbacks are 22-60.
